I feel S always gets the short end of the stick when it comes to fun things for him to do. His weekends have always consisted of going with us to all of Miss P’s dance events. Not fun for him at all, but he was always a good sport about it. He has tried skating and hockey. We have an outdoor rink by us, and he really started to get quick on the ice. He is fast, and loves to race around the rink. I always thought hockey would be a great sport for him and the Mr. was semi-pro once.

I have signed him up for soccer for the last two years, and he was more interested in running around not after the ball. But this spring, something clicked and he loves it. Dare I say, he is really good. He is on two teams and plays three days a week. He enjoys the clinics and can’t wait for the games every week. He scores consistently and doesn’t stop running the entire time trying to get the ball.

I am so excited for him. I want him to feel proud of himself and also be a part of a team. Good things ahead for my little guy.

I am downsizing and rethinking what I want to keep or sell. A lot is going actually. I have a list 3 pages long. I kid you not. So I started to sell pieces of furniture on Ebay. It has been interesting to say the least. I am very specific in my descriptions and the fact that buyer is responsible for arranging and paying for their purchases. See, I am selling off big pieces, and I want no part in any of that. I have purchased many vintage mid-century pieces and I have always organized and was responsible for my purchases, not the seller. I was totally cool with that. Well, I have to say it has been really annoying to say the least. Someone tried to scam me. That didn’t go over well. Another buyer had to back out because she didn’t know the abbreviations for the states and was shocked when I said my state was across the country from her state. Who knew?!  I am currently waiting for another buyer to pay for the chairs she purchased. We are going on day 4. What is the protocol for time frame to pay for what you bought? I think 4 days is pushing it. Is it me or is this normal when dealing with buyers?

UPDATE: Buyer asked to cancel. Yet another one who has no clue that SC is not next door to my state. I think Geography classes are a must in our educational system……..

Since this will be the last Spring spent at this home, I have been savoring all the blossoms sprouting on the grounds. When we first moved in, we planted a lilac bush right by the front porch. The previous house we built, we planted a lilac bush by one of the entries. The smell of the lilac reminds me of my childhood and running down to the farm where Mama and Jaju up the Farm lived. They had a huge lilac tree right by the mudroom door. I remember being really young, like 4 years old, running down through the fields to smell the blossoms. No matter what the next plan is, a lilac tree will be right there.

I cut some of the blossoms and put them on my nightstand. Simple pleasures.

For the last 15 years I have been wanting to go to Brimfield to the Brimfield Antiques Show. The show runs three times throughout the year. May, July and September. I never could go in May or September because of work commitments. July is unbearably hot and the thought of walking through miles of fields in the sweltering heat never appealed to me. Last Thursday we woke up at 4:30 in the morning and took the 90 minute drive North to Brimfield. The idea was to get there close to dawn for the perfect parking spot and beat the traffic getting in. We arrived after 6 and there were already tons of people there. The downside of getting there so early is that many of the tents/booths are not even open.

What struck me was the massive amount of stuff people collect and sell. I am not kidding when I say anything and everything was there. Vintage pennies, light bulbs, faucet heads, skulls, hooks, dishes, airplane wings. I am not a hoarder, but I even feel like I have so much stuff in my house that I cannot even deal with. Since we are moving, I have made sure to start purging. So,  before I arrived, I had a list of what I was going to search for.

Brimfield is so massive. My mind started to swirl with all the stuff I was looking at. I actually felt sick at one point because it was a bit too much for me. Every type of walk of life was there. There was a huge contingency of people from Brooklyn swooping in and getting all the mid-century. It was amazing to watch, and they literally grabbed every chair that I was going to go for. Unreal but completely fantastic to watch. I wasn’t going to get into a frenzy and moved on my merry way. I spotted a few tv celebrities from the home improvement shows, one designer and a few people I recognized from sitcom programs.

My list consisted of: skeleton keys, milk glass, lighting, vintage farm table about 12-14 feet long, vintage Levis, mid-century anything, large industrial mirrors, and Tolix chairs. With that in mind, we started our search. There is definitely a mix of old and brand new there, so that appealed to me as well.

I found some amazing lights and snatched up one for over the kitchen table for the new construction. The lights were from a factory in Belgium. Score.

I snatched up a cowhide from Brazil. Such an amazing deal. That will go in the new master with my new color scheme.I am a sucker for anything vintage and the 70s, hence my Levis obsession. I scored this bag from the early 70s. The leather was impeccable.I have a scattering of Buddhas throughout the home. These were solid marble. Incredibly heavy.

I will definitely return in the fall with a new list. I was happy with what we found and they are already in storage for the new move in late winter.
